Understanding, embracing and reflecting upon the messiness of the fieldwork<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

BAICE 2016 Student Conference welcomes paper proposals that deal with the centrality of the <\/span>fieldwork<\/i><\/b><\/span> in doctoral research projects. Students at any stage of their doctoral research are encouraged to submit proposals, take part and meet other postgraduate research students. The conference covers a range of issues pertinent to methodological, theoretical and ethical challenges in the fieldwork, including but not limited to:<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
–\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>confronting hegemonic paradigms in theorising complexity of social life in global South<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
–\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>tentativeness of research design in the wake of <\/span>unexpected <\/i><\/span>realities on-the-ground<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
–\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>negotiating researcher\u2019s identity and practicing reflexivity<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
–\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>positioning in the field and negotiating layers of authority and power relations<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
–\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>resolving the tensions between <\/span>local <\/i><\/span>and <\/span>universal<\/i><\/span> codes of ethics, and reporting them<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
–\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>confronting \u201cmessiness\u201d of quantitative data and research designs<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
BAICE encourages doctoral students to share and learn from each other\u2019s plans, experiences, concerns, and challenges in the field.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
