Hello!

Many thanks to Richard for kindly inviting me to join LANTERN. Our professional friendship goes back before I started my PhD and I have always been grateful for Richard’s kind encouragement and professional support. Now, it is really lovely being part of this amazing group when I formally join MIE.

My interest in intercultural education and language learning and teaching started from my undergraduate background in English Studies and Translation. Then, I completed my PhD at the University of Glasgow with the work focusing on foreign language learners’ acculturation experiences in Chinese and British Study Abroad Programmes from a developmental and bio-ecological perspective.

I am now a Lecturer in Education at the Manchester Institute of Education with a background in international education and cross-cultural psychology. My research interests focus broadly on international and intercultural education and developmental psychology, particularly on international students’ acculturation experiences and mobility; mental health and psychological wellbeing; social interactions (both within and outside campus); Study Abroad (Exchange) Programmes; language, culture, and identity; and creative research methods. I primarily teach on the MA International Education programme, including on course units Concepts and Practices of International Education, Intercultural Engagement at Work and in Communities. I also currently work on a project investigating China/Chinese English as an innovation in World Englishes.
