BAAL Special Interest Group on Intercultural Communication

Date: 19 – 20 May 2016

Location: The Open University, 1-11 Hawley Crescent, Camden Town, London

Costs: £99 for BAAL members, £115 for non-members, two postgraduate scholarships will be available, no daily rate

Theme: Intercultural communication and social responsibility in a multilingual, globalized world

In a globalized and multilingual world which faces unprecedented challenges regarding social cohesion in a range of communities and the workforce, the need for intercultural dialogue, communication and competence is ever more apparent. The focus in research on intercultural communication has often been on university students from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds. The seminar aims to offer a forum not only to present research in this area but also on research that deals with different groups of people, including ethnic minorities, migrants, and the multicultural workforce.

The seminar invites particularly contributions in the following areas:

  • Intercultural communication and social justice within multicultural environments and different communities
  • Intercultural communication and migration
  • Intercultural communication and identity/identities
  • Intercultural citizenship
  • Intercultural communication, inclusion and exclusion
