Many thanks, everyone. It is indeed a special moment worth all the effort. It was great to share it with Richard and the family, especially my grandfather who has followed my PhD journey since its beginning, and flew all the way from Cairo to attend the ceremony (photo added).
I look forward to seeing you all in your gowns very soon 🙂
Mariam and Viv (Xiaowei) are Manchester new colours (ie. after the merger with UMIST) whereas mine are old Manchester (i.e the Victoria University of Manchester) as my doctorate was conferred pre-merger …..

Congratulations Mariam and Viv! Looks like the weather stayed good for it too! Miri
Then I guess I’ll have to make sure I don’t stand next to anyone whose regalia look better.
I’m afraid you graduate in the colours of the awarding institution, i.e. the new colours.
Many congratulations Mariam and Viv. Very sorry to have missed the ceremony but you look wonderful. And Richard too of course:-)
I think I like the old ones better. Can I graduate in the old ones, please?

Ahhhh how lovely!! Congratulations!!
I wouldn’t notice. I am intrigued by the scarlet gown, though. Your PhD was from Manchester, wasn’t it?
My gown technique is a disgrace! (R)
