Elf on the road … and researching multilingualism

Picking up on Khwan’s recent CultNet reflections, my contribution there was a joint talk with Prue Holmes on some cultural and intercultural aspects of English as a Lingua Franca (ELF), a theme we’ll be developing further at both the ELF 7 pre-conference in Athens next week:

and then at the BAAL IC-SIG event in Edinburgh towards the end of the month (where Khwan will also be presenting):

and by then hopefully the chapter on ELF in the Greek context by myself, Nicos Sifakis and Vally Lytra (for a book edited by Prue Holmes and Fred Derwin) will also be complete. Phew!

Then it’s a change of tack as the new AHRC “Researching Multilingually at the  Borders of Language, the Body, Law and the State” (in which our long-standing community member Marian Attia has a post-doctoral fellowship role) has its launch event in Glasgow:

Busy times 🙂
