Taking 30 years to complete the PhD
An interesting story entitled ‘How I finished my PhD …just 30 years after I began“.
I haven’t quite decided if this is an encouragement or not. What I think it does do though is show the emotional investment in the data collection stage and the impact that can have on the writing up. Although not comparable with this lady’s experience, I did have my data locked in a drawer for a couple of months before I could face looking at it, partly because I didn’t want to be drawn back into the turmoil I had felt while collecting it, but also because I didn’t want to face the fact that it might not be ‘good’ enough. It hasn’t impacted on the completion date (yet) though.
