Call for paper proposals on the use of visual methods in language studies to be published in a special issue in an international peer reviewed journal

Applying visual methods in research on language use and learning/teaching has gained popularity in recent years. The use of visual methods has provided new ways of examining language users’ and learners’ experiences in and approaches towards languages and language learning. Visual methods have also provided language teachers new possibilities to e.g. raise language awareness. The analysis of visual data such as drawings, photos, picture collages (among others) is, however, a challenging task. With the planned Special Issues, we wish to illustrate cutting-edge research on language learning/teaching and use with a variety of visual data (or possibly multimodal data) collected and analyzed. The specific focus is on the learning and/or teaching of additional languages or users of more than one language, and their experiences of being multilinguals.

We envision one or two special issues, each consisting of 5 or 6 articles. Each article would be approximately 7000 – 8000 words long with references. To continue our negotiation with a prospective journal, we need a proposal for each article/paper to be included in the special issue (or two).

Paper proposals:

An article proposal should be approximately 1000 words in length. The proposal should report original empirical research and it should include

–          Proposed title

–          Aims of the study

–          The theoretical framework adhered to

–          Description of data and the methods of data collection

–          Description of the analysis of data

–          Tentative outcomes and implications

–          Key references

–          Author(s) information: full name(s) and contact details (e-mail addresses and telephone numbers).

Notification of acceptance

in the proposal to a journal: October 30, 2015

Proposal to a journal: December 2015

First draft of full article: Early Spring 2015

Final draft of full article: Late Spring 2016

Submission: Autumn 2016
