CultNet 2016 – the 19th such gathering at Durham

I am very excited to share with you that Zeynep Onat-Stelma and I have applied to the CulNet event 2016, in order to present the research project/ proposal that we will be working on for the following months.

For me, this will be my first presentation outside the UoM campus. Wish me luck! 🙂

So, the 19th CultNet has come and gone and not only did we all gain through the experience of participating in this kindly, purposeful, pushing event at Durham but I think that the LANTERN community also contributed to its flavour this time with presentations by:

    – Khwan
    – Fida
    – Nahielly and Zeynep
    – Min, me and Ross
    – Khwan, Elisa and Fitri

And slightly more widely, presentations too by RM-ly colleagues:

    – Prue (on behalf of the RMTC Hub)
    – Grazie
    – Melissa
    – Judith

And not forgetting presentations by our Cordoba colleagues Elena and Elisa.

For me, one thought occurred – how is CultNet (with its origins in the Durham Interculturally-oriented doctoral community at Durham School of Education) similar and different from LANTERN? I felt that events like our Bringing it Back Home are similar to the early days of CultNet …. and that our community is growing in strength and colour just as the Durham did, sufficient to sustain CultNet all these years. I am not suggesting we try and compete with CultNet nut rather than we recognise that our community is also on a developmental trajectory, one of value not for each one of us, and not only of value for us a group, but also, increasingly, of value to others as our critical mass grows.

Maybe, those who presented can add a comment to this thread on their experience of CultNet this year?

And there will be a good Manchester outing this year with contributions (details to follow) from KEF (Khwan, Elisa and Fitri), a solo paper from Khwan, and a joint one from Min, Ross and myself, and a joint one from the Researching Multilingually team (involving LANTERN alumni Mariam, Jane Andrews and me). Have I missed anyone else who is going?

Sounds good. I think you’ll find it a very positive experience, Nahielly.
